McKenzie joins the SPPG + Essman Research team as a proud Iowan, enthusiastic communicator and emerging leader.

After completing her B.S. in Communication at Wartburg College, she relocated from northeast Iowa and her hometown of Waverly to Des Moines for a marketing role at the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) and the ABI Foundation. McKenzie continues her passion of supporting organizations and efforts making a difference in the lives of Iowans.

As a young professional who navigated moving to a new city, claiming a new community as home and redefining her career aspirations as her interests develop, she became eager to provide peer support to others having similar experiences. She is currently serving as the Membership Chair of the Young Professional Connection and on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, both initiatives of the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

With community involvement as an important value to her, McKenzie is also an on-going volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Central Iowa. An activity her and her “little” enjoy doing most together is visiting McKenzie’s horse, Jones – a 22 year old, 16.2 hand, bay, off-the-track thoroughbred.

Personal interest and volunteerism unite for McKenzie as an equestrian who has participated in and instructed during horse events locally, regionally and nationally. Her focus is horsemanship and sportsmanship as it relates to the Hunter/Jumper and Eventing horse sports. She is a long-time member of the United States Pony Clubs and co-facilitates annual leadership programs at their national symposium.

An aspect of her work at State Public Policy Group she feel is most important are the opportunities to ensure the community members asking for and creating community solutions receive the support they deserve. She strives to increase engagement in these issues through her marketing expertise.
