Nancy Witt’s bowling name is “Wheels,” and that comes with great respect given she has been a part of the SPPG Team that has won our annual day-long bowling tournament three years in a row. Nancy started at SPPG in 1992 and telecommutes from Reinbeck, Iowa, about 100 miles north of Des Moines.
Sure she can bowl, but her tenacity in her approach as a researcher, interviewer, writer, and project specialist has made her a key team member on many projects over the last 15 years. Witt graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in communication. Since graduating, she has had a number of essays and short stories for parents and children with disabilities published. (Her recent essay on Telecommuting is on the SPPG web site.)
When first joining SPPG, Nancy worked on a variety of projects focusing on advocacy, disabilities, and the rights of individuals. She has matured with the company, and is consistently sought as a team member for so many different projects. Witt has her favorites, though. “I like working on many different kinds of projects, but I especially like the state-by-state research and the public affairs.”
Nancy is a voracious reader, devouring, on average, about 60 books each year. Her diverse reading list ranges from biographies to sports to science and travel. No summer beach novels for this bookworm. Some suggest that her book fetish and her daily look at a number of on-line newspapers and publications are key to her being the Trivia Queen of the office.
Witt has always stressed the value of community and respect for one another. She says this was impressed upon her from ages 5-10 when living away from home at The University of Iowa Hospital School. Wheels now puts those tenets into practice as the Vice-Chair of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, but she’s relatively heartless when it comes to SPPG bowling.
