TOM SLATER HONORED WITH THE 2007 MICKEY MCDANIEL AWARD BY THE IOWA PREVENTION AND DISABILITIES COUNCIL October 3, 2007
On September 28, 2007, Tom Slater, Founder and CEO of SPPG, was awarded the 2007 Mickey McDaniel Award given by the Iowa Prevention and Disabilities Council for his outstanding service and support for persons with health and disabilities issues. Slater was cited for his work with public and private sector organizations over the last 25 years. In addition to serving on the Iowa Prevention and Disabilities Council for six years, Slater was instrumental in establishing the Iowa Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, the Iowa Able Foundation, and served on the Board of the Iowa Abilities Fund for six years. He has also served for five years as Chairman of the College of Public Health’s External Advisory Board. Mickey Daniels, for whom the award was named, was a long-time advocate for persons with disabilities.
