Theresa Slaughter

OST Enrichment Coach

Theresa Slaughter has lived her life with little to no regret. She thanks her two sons, Kevin and Tory, for that. They have taught her many lessons, the most important to look at life from many different perspectives. This is an important skill, especially in her work for SPPG as an Out-of-School Time Enrichment Coach helping Central Iowa afterschool and summer programs be their best for the good of the youth they serve.

Theresa’s passion for supporting youth to be their best also drives her to persevere and challenge herself. In the role of Enrichment Coach, this is also a good quality Theresa brings to the project. On any given day, you will find her coaching both novice and professional program staff to raise the level of programming they offer, and this often takes resiliency, patience, and a sense of humor. More lessons with which she was equipped thanks to her boys.

The short version of her journey to becoming an OST Enrichment coach is a Master’s in Business Leadership/Management along with a Secondary Education Teaching Certification and over 20 years working in various learning environments ranging from the juvenile justice system to classroom teacher and everything in between.

On a personal level, Theresa is an avid reader of urban fiction and can be seen most times with a book in hand. If not reading, she’s chilling out with family and friends enjoying BBQ or just hanging out. She loves to watch and, at times, attend sporting events such as football and basketball (Go Chiefs!!!). And every now and then one might see her catching a theater production or concert.

Theresa clearly doesn’t take herself so seriously that she misses out on life and the world around her. She brings awareness, knowledge, and a knack for working with others together for the benefit of the youth in the afterschool and summer programs – and the young people are the winners!
